In this guide, we’ll walk you through how to change your WordPress login page URL to enhance your website’s security.
WordPress powers more than 39% of all websites on the internet, making it the world’s most popular content management system (CMS) and blogging platform, according to W3Techs. Its flexibility, ease of use, and vast library of themes and plugins make it a go-to choice for building everything from personal blogs to full-scale business websites.
However, its popularity also makes it a prime target for hackers. One of the simplest ways to strengthen your site’s defenses is by changing the default login URL, which is commonly known and often exploited in brute-force attacks.
Why you should change WordPress Login page url
Unfortunately all WordPress websites come with a default admin login page which is yourwebsite.com/wp-admin, which means anyone can just go to your website and access your admin login page by adding wp-admin to your site url.
Well while that might not look like much of a problem but imaging if they can guest your credentials, what would happen?
So changing your login url is the best thing to do, if you want to prevent that from happening.
Benefits of changing your admin login url
- More security
- It hides WordPress vulnerabilities
- It protects you against Brute Force Attacks
- It lets you rebrand the login page

There are several plugins out there that can handle the task but for the sake of this tutorial we'll be using WPS Hide Login, because its free and easy to configure.

First of All login to your WordPress Dashboard and go to plugins
Go to add new and search for WPS Hide Login in the Search Box
Now click install and activate the plugin
Now go to the plugins page locate the plugin WPS Hide Login and click on settings.
Once you are on the settings page scroll down to the section where you will see WPS Hide Login
Now you will see two boxes the first one is where you'll change the login url e.g from yourwebsite.com/wp-admin to yourwebsite.com/customurl while the second one is the url a user will be taken to if they try to access the default WordPress wp-admin page.
Just replace the url with your new custom url of your choice and click save.
